Brief of coursework

This year, my A2 coursework will consist of creating a marketing campaign for an imaginary film. This campaign will include a teaser trailer, film poster and magazine front cover. I will ensure that each element of the campaign holds relevance to each other. This is in order to enable the audience to be able to justify that each element is promoting the same film.

As I am not yet entirely sure on the genre of film, which I am going to be creating my campaign for, I will carry out research in regards to the conventions of magazine covers, posters and teaser trailers. This will enable me to use the conventional form in my own media products, as well as seeing if these conventions remain constant throughout.

Below I have included the magazine cover, poster and teaser trailer for the film 'Inception'. These are similar to what I will have produced by the end of my course work.

Poster analysis introduction

I am going to conduct research and analysis towards the conventions of film posters. I have looked at five different posters from a variety of genres, in order to see if there are similarities within the conventions. This will help my understanding of the depth in film posters, thus benefitting me when I am making my own.  Below are the five posters, each of different genres, which I chose to analyse the conventions of: 1) La La Land  2) Spider Man  3) Insidious 2  4) Hangover 2  5) The Notebook

Magazine cover analysis introduction

After looking at the conventions of movie posters, I will now do the exact same, but for film magazine covers. Both film magazines I will be looking at are aimed at different audience and will both be for different front covers from a different film magazine. In terms of design and layout, I will be able to see if both film magazines share the same conventions.  Below are the two film magazine covers I will be analysing:

list of tools I used in software

Adobe premiere: software ALL DONE ON A PC Camera: HC-VX980 Manfrotto tripod Use of dissolves From black dissolving into next shot – slows the tone down and gives glimpses in (seems like little romantic snapshots at the start) I added an outside sound during the park shots Camera sound from the colleges sound effect library Impact sounds from BBC sound library I included a sound effect of a ring tone from BBC sound effects library instead of the apple iphone ringtone which I recorded with the shot iphone doesn’t sound like a ringtone in a trailer Fading down the volume of the music whenever there was any dialogue from the actors the music was loudest in the 3 rd part so I especially did this here Photoshop, for the film title
