Potential coverlines

Below I have come up with a list of potential coverlines which I will feature inside my magazine. The magazine I will be creating is a publication of mainstream Hollywood blockbusters. Whilst keeping this in mind, I have also made sure I am remaining aware of my intended audience for Horror films. Therefore, I have noted the importance of referencing films which suit this criteria. I have chosen coverlines for films which have been released, or announced for release in 2018.

1) The Darkest Minds
Superheroes for the millennial generation

2) Robin Hood
Boys in the hood
Egerton and Dornan in Robin Hood reboot

3) Jonny English Strikes Again
Olga Kurylenko
Bond girl back in Jonny English sequel

4) Venom
Tom Hardy suits up

5) The Spy Who Dumped Me
Mila Kunis

6) A Star Is Born

Poster analysis introduction

I am going to conduct research and analysis towards the conventions of film posters. I have looked at five different posters from a variety of genres, in order to see if there are similarities within the conventions. This will help my understanding of the depth in film posters, thus benefitting me when I am making my own.  Below are the five posters, each of different genres, which I chose to analyse the conventions of: 1) La La Land  2) Spider Man  3) Insidious 2  4) Hangover 2  5) The Notebook

SFX front cover analysis

This is one of the front covers from SFX magazine. SFX is a British magazine, which covers topics in the genres of popular science fictions, fantasy and horror, in different types of medias such as films, video games, comics and literature. The magazine was founded in 1995 and gets published every 4 weeks for Future PLC. The genre of the magazine can be told immediately by the 3D, silver masthead in bold. This futuristic tone has also been accompanied by a visionary dominant central image. The cover lines mention films; 'Dawn of the Apes' as well as tv shows such as 'Walking Dead', 'Super Natural' and 'Doctor Who'. All of these productions fit in with the Sci-fi genre, which SFX promotes.

Poster analysis 1

The first film poster I am going to be analysing is La La Land as has been classified as the musical genre.  The poster conventions I found for this film were smaller images, reviews, reference to awards, film title, name of stars and star ratings. I suspect the rest of the posters I analyse to include the same conventions, despite the differing genres.
