Horror trailer genre analysis

The third Horror trailer I am going to analyse the genre conventions of is The Purge: Election Year  -Taglines -Fades to black -Dissolve  -Choral music is contrapuntal with the action taking place -Images of blood at the beginning -Editing in first half of trailer is relatively slow  -Sudden sound effects -Second half of trailer is much faster paced in terms of cutting between shots -Quick shots of violence and mise-en-scene involving weapons such as guns and knives  -Narration is played over quick editing  -Filmed consistently in the evening, creating a sense of unease and insecurity  -Fast and sinister music  -Some slow and exaggerated movements  -Several rapid and quick shots of characters being attacked with weapons -Impact sounds -Setting often being in the family home, reinforces Horror genre as the home is supposed to be a place of safety and security  -Trailer is filled with dark shadows and lack of light, creating...

The second trailer I am going to be analysing the genre for is Annabelle  -Fades to black  -Creepy sinister music  -Impact sound -Pace of music slows down as pace of editing slows down  -Pace of music speeds up as pace of editing speeds up -Shadows under title of the film, in the shapes of coffins  -Font of title hints the horror genre to the audience  -Name of film comes out of a wall which is quite sinister  -Images of blood and dolls are shown throughout trailer, which adds the effect of fear -Low-key lighting is used at the start, this creates an anxious atmosphere -Quick changes of camera angles and cuts in between scenes -Tagline mentioning other horror films; the conjuring  -The music works contrapuntally in the middle of the trailer   -Release date is October, which is around Halloween time -Doll music is contrapuntal music  -Whole idea of trailer is contrapuntal as it is about a doll which symbolise...

Horror trailer genre analysis

Since having decided what genre my film is going to belong to I am now going to analyse five existing trailers for horror films. I am going to analyse them in terms of their genre conventions. For following trailers I have chosen to look at are:  1) Saw 7  2) Annabelle  3) The Purge 4) Cult of Chucky  5) It The first trailer I have chosen to analyse is Saw 7 -Taglines  -Certificate -Fast pace music  -3-D taglines -3-D parts of film -'WILL YOU SURVIVE' tagline is directed at the viewer 'YOU' -Pace of editing increases as the pace of music does -Narrator speaking in the background, with a creepy sinister voice  -Bold fonts -Cuts from significant part in trailer -Fades into black  -Impact sounds  -Release date is Halloween

Teaser trailer conventions

Since comparing five different teaser trailers, I realised they all contain the same conventions, despite the opposing genres.  Below is a list of all the conventions I expected to be in the teaser trailer, but weren't: -Reference to films awards -Film reviews, e.g. "Ranked top film of the year by Daily Mail" Despite not coming across these two conventions, there were a wide range of conventions which I did come across. For example: -Sound effects/impact sound -Variety of different camera movement, shots and angles -Some trailers, e.g. Avengers, Harry Potter and Fast and Furious contained special effects -Music which reflected genre, e.g. fast tempo music was in Avengers teaser trailer, to create intensity and atmosphere for the audience -Film website -Production company logo's, e.g. Paramount or Viacom (this was usually at the end of the trailer) -Images of stars -Images from film -Film title -Genre indication -Release date -Voice over -Eye candy...

Teaser trailer conventions - Fast and furious

Lastly, I have analysed the conventions of the teaser trailer for Fast and Furious.  Below is what I found:     -Voice over -Tagline -Release date -Sound effects/impact sounds -Special effects -Images of stars, e.g. Dwayne Johnson -Genre indication; Action -Different camera shots, angles and movements -Eye candy -Extracts from the film  -Production company logo; Universal -Fast tempo music matching quick pace editing; links to genre of film  -Film title 

Teaser trailer conventions - Harry Potter

I have watched the teaser trailer for Harry Potter and analysed the conventions from it. Below is what I found: - Images of stars; Daniel Radcliff -Images from film -Film rating showing approval for all audiences -Film production company logo; Warner Bros -Sound effects -Special effects -Up tempo music reflecting genree -Release date -Taglines -Film title -Quick pace editing

I have watched the teaser trailer for 'Avengers', and below I will annotate the conventions:  -Sound effects; cars blowing up -Impact sounds -Voice overs -Film production company logos; Paramount, Viacom and Marvel -Images of stars -Images from film -Indication from genre; superheroes -Special effects -Release date -Film title -Film website -Variety of camera movements, shots and angles -Dramatic music to create atmosphere; matches genre of film

I analysed the teaser trailer for 'Baywatch' and below are the conventions I found: -Tagline -Release date -Film title -Sound effects/impact sounds -Images of stars, e.g. Zac Efron who plays lead role -Suitable music, reflecting the genre -Clear indication of genre; comedy -Variety of camera angles, movements and shots -Films website -Film production company logo; Paramount -Footage from the film

Teaser trailer conventions - It

The first teaser trailer I am going to analyse is for the film 'it'. This film is from the Horror genre.  Below is the teaser trailer: After watching this clip, I have wrote all the conventions which I found: -Images of stars, e.g. Jaeden Leiber, who plays Bill Denbrough; one of the main characters -Short extracts from the film -Production company logos; Warner Bro's -Film genre indication; Horror -Sound effect/impact sounds -Fast pace editing -Different camera shots and fast movements -Music chosen to create atmosphere and tension -Dramatic camera angles chosen to reveal certain characters, such as the clown right at the end.

Teaser trailer conventions introduction

Since having compared the different conventions of teaser trailers and theatrical trailers, I am now going to focus on teaser trailers as an individual source to help me decide what I will be creating for my marketing campaign. I will be looking at and analysing five different teaser trailers from five different genres. This will be done in order to see if the conventions of the trailers are the same, regardless on what the genre of film it is.  Below are the five different teaser trailers, all of different genres, I will be analysing the conventions of:
