Evaluation - conventions of real media products

In what ways do my media products use, develop or challenge forms of real media products? - Trailer

The final part of my course work was to direct and create my own teaser trailer, to match my chosen genre; Horror. In order to film and edit accordingly to existing trailers for Horror films, I conducted a lot of research into the conventions.

In order to show I incorporated an accurate portrayal of the Horror genre, I analysed a variety of different conventional Horror teaser trailers. This ensured I was certain about what I needed to include in my Horror trailer.

Below are my blog posts for this:

During my research, I realised that, regardless of the films genre, the trailers conventions are all the same. For instance, they all include a variety of different camera shots, angles and movements. Other similar conventions I found were sound effects, production company logo's, images of stars, images from the film and the films title. Some trailers I analysed contained special effects, such as Harry Potter, Fast and Furious and Avengers.

Below I have outlined my posts within my research and planning for this:

I have also analysed the similarities and differences between theatrical and teaser trailers. This helped me distinguish between what id need to include in my teaser trailer, in comparison to what would be included in a theatrical trailers.

I anaylsed two films which have both a teaser trailer and theatrical trailers. The two films I looked at were Pirates of the Carribean and Skyfall.

I have included my blog posts for this below:

Poster analysis introduction

I am going to conduct research and analysis towards the conventions of film posters. I have looked at five different posters from a variety of genres, in order to see if there are similarities within the conventions. This will help my understanding of the depth in film posters, thus benefitting me when I am making my own.  Below are the five posters, each of different genres, which I chose to analyse the conventions of: 1) La La Land  2) Spider Man  3) Insidious 2  4) Hangover 2  5) The Notebook

Magazine cover analysis introduction

After looking at the conventions of movie posters, I will now do the exact same, but for film magazine covers. Both film magazines I will be looking at are aimed at different audience and will both be for different front covers from a different film magazine. In terms of design and layout, I will be able to see if both film magazines share the same conventions.  Below are the two film magazine covers I will be analysing:

Evaluation - what have I learnt from my audience feedback?

Within my research and planning, I constantly had my target audience in mind. I therefore conducted several questionnaires and focus groups,  in order to gather information on what my audience expected in regards to different media texts, along with making decisions based on their feedback.  My main aim for my marketing campaign was for it to hold authenticity and realism for the audience. I questionnaires which I have included below helped me achieve this: Questionnaire for poster Questionnaire for magazine cover Questionnaire for teaser trailer Additionally, I have also conducted a series of questionnaires post production of my marketing campaign. I wanted to gather feed back from my audience to see if they felt that my poster, magazine cover and teaser trailer were sustainable, accurate and convincing.  My posters questionnaire goes as follows:  1) Was the font I used effective in portraying the nature of a horror film? If so how? 2) Did you fee...
