My marketing campaign

My marketing campaign  For my marketing campaign I have decided to focus on Horror. I have completed research in order to carry this out further and understand what Horror films consist of.  Below is a link which explains what a Horror film actually is. Horror films here are described as 'a  movie that seeks to elicit a physiological reaction, such as an elevated heartbeat, through the use of fear and shocking one’s audiences'.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horror_film After reading this I also learnt that Horror films main aims are to evoke audiences fears, nightmares and terrors of the 'unknown'. These include Aliens, Vampires, Monsters, Zombies, Psychopaths/Serial killers or natural/man-made disasters. There are also different sub-genres of Horror, such as: psychological horror, science fiction horror, supernatural horror, gothic horror or comedy horror.  Examples of successful Horror films are: 1) Orphan 2) Paranormal activity  3) Sinist...

BBFC Research

I have conducted research into the two certificates 12/12A and 15, on the BBFC website, In order to see which is more appropriate for my film. Below I have placed the link of the BBFC website, to which I gathered all my information from. BBFC In order to carry out this research, I am going to select a certificate for my film. This will enable me to gather the guidelines which I will need when I am deciding on the content which will be suitable for the certificate.  I am going to start by researching the guidelines for films with a 12/12A rating.  12/12A: Films which have been classified 12A and video works which have been classified as a 12 all contain material which has been ruled as unsuitable for children below the age of 12 to view. Therefore, unless accompanied by an adult, anyone under the age age of 12 will be able to see a film with this rating.  Within 12/12A films, there was must be a very infrequent misuse of drugs. Moreover drugs shoul...

My certificate for film

I have chosen to give my film a 15 certificate. I feel as though this will be appropriate, as I believe the age of my audience, which I want my film to be targeted at, should be from 15 years old to young adults. Another reason why I have chosen this is because I think this is the criteria which my film will fit into. The areas of strong language which will potentially feature, will be suitable for 15 years and older.  I think this will target a wide audience, thus benefiting the film production.

different film publication intro

After analysing the conventions found on film magazine front covers, I will now be looking at five different covers from different types of publications. I will be analysing them in terms of layout, content and style. This analysis will show me how when creating my film magazines front cover, I will need to reflect the type of film I chose through the type of magazine that I use, as I have not yet chose the genre of film I am going to be making. I am going to achieve this through layout, content and style of the front cover.  Below are the five different film publication front covers which I am going to be analysing:

Magazine cover conventions

During my analysis of existing magazine covers, I managed to highlight all the possible conventions that are included on front covers. Below I have compiled a list of all the conventions which I will be using when creating my own magazine cover: Dominant central image Coverlines  Masthead Barcode Price and date Main cover line Web adress Banners Other images Slogans

Magazine cover conclusion

This task has enabled me to discover that despite the identical conventions of all magazine covers, the content of the cover differs. This is all dependant on the publication type and aimed audience. For example, when I was comparing the cover lines for the productions mentioned on Total Film and Empire, they were both two different genres.  I now have a better understanding on the type of content to which I am going to use when deciding on which type of publication I am going to create. I also need to take font and colour schemes into account, as this reflects the types of films which are to feature on these magazines.

Film magazine analysis 2

Total film is the second film magazine cover that I analysed. As predicted, in comparison to the previous magazine cover, this one also includes a Masthead, cover lines, issue date and price, dominant central image, barcode and banner.

Film magazine cover analysis 1

Empire Magazine Empire magazine is the first film magazine cover, which I will be analysing the conventions of.  The conventions I found were a Masthead, dominant central image, main cover line, cover lines, banners, price and the issue date. I feel as though the other magazine cover I am going to analyse will follow the same conventions.

Magazine cover analysis introduction

After looking at the conventions of movie posters, I will now do the exact same, but for film magazine covers. Both film magazines I will be looking at are aimed at different audience and will both be for different front covers from a different film magazine. In terms of design and layout, I will be able to see if both film magazines share the same conventions.  Below are the two film magazine covers I will be analysing:

Existing Film Publications

I am going to analyse a variety of different film magazines, which are already on the market. I will closely look at them in terms of audience, contents and style. This will enable me to think of the most appropriate and effective style of magazine publication, which is suitable for my film.  From my research, I have gathered information in regards to different types of film publications, all serving interests to a wide range of different audiences. All the magazines I came across contain film reviews, along with what audiences would want to know about film production. I have also learned they are all used for the promotion of upcoming films, although the types of films promoted, vary according to the type of magazine which has been published.  Below are a few examples of existing film publications: 1) American Cinematographer American Cinematographer is published by the American society of cinematographers. The magazine covers domestic and foreign feature productions,...

My own billing

In order to be able to create my own billing, I am going to use existing crew members that are from my films genre. This is in order to add authenticity and realism to my billing/credits, and make them appear genuine. Since having already decided on my films production companies, I am going to conduct further research in order to find out more about my remaining crew.  Production companies: Blumhouse Productions, Dimension Films, and Ghost House Pictures.  Stars: Actor 1: Demi crook Mini Bio: Demi Crook is a well known actor, who grew up in Oxford and got into acting at a very young age. She landed her first acting job at the age of 12, which was in a commercial. Since then her acting career kicked off by starring in a number of Horror films; 'Eye's in the dark', 'They're watching you', and 'No one know's you're here'. Due to her wide experience, I feel as though Demi will be perfect for my film. Actor 2: Cali Nice Min...
